Women Take the Reins: Sophie Barrington, Archer Creative

We spoke to Sophie to find out what it's like to be a woman in the equestrian industry in 2018.

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Sophie Barrington and I’m the founder of Archer Creative.

What’s been your greatest professional achievement to date?

Launching my business, Archer Creative, at the age of 23. As I celebrate more than four successful years in business, I’m incredibly proud of the goals we’ve surpassed, the results we’ve achieved, the clients we’ve worked with and the many opportunities to come.

How did you get to where you are today, and who/what helped you?

As a business owner, I believe my success is the direct result of my efforts across all areas from client acquisition, to marketing, to management. However, I haven’t done it all alone. It is with the support of my clients, my team, my mentors, family and partner that I owe my success.

What’s it like being a woman in your world?

As a young, female entrepreneur, I consider attributes, such as my gender and my age, to be assets in doing business. From the tack room to the board room, I bring energy and enthusiasm, passion and professionalism to my relationships with clients, colleagues and others.

Has being a woman helped or hindered your career?

Perhaps both, but it’s not something I pay close attention to. As a lifelong equestrian, I have been shaped, both personally and professionally, by the only global sport where men and women compete equally. In equestrianism, as in business, hard work is rewarded by success.

What does a work/life balance look like for you?

Finding enjoyment in each day. Reflecting on the past 12 months, which was our most successful year to date, I recall how quickly the year passed by. This year, I want to cultivate enjoyment wherever I am — in the office, in the saddle, with clients and with loved ones.

What’s on the horizon?

The year ahead is an exciting one for Archer Creative! Now in our fifth year, our clients and our team are rapidly expanding. Over the next 12 months, we will be aligning our services with emerging digital marketing trends to keep our clients truly ahead of the herd.

If you could provide one piece of advice to your 16-year-old self, what would that be?

Get up, dress up, show up and never give up.
